SUBTROPICS 20
For its 20th anniversary, Subtropics has shifted from an annual to a
biennial format. The 2009 Subtropics (February 26 - March 15) will be produced in a way that celebrates the festival's history and foreground's the tradition of experimental music for its capacity to challenge aesthetic conventions and ask fundamental questions about the nature of society and the environment.
To celebrate this important milestone, we have decided to stage the
first physical meeting of iSAW's
advisory board, comprised of major figures in the American tradition of experimental music.
The Festival will feature concerts and exhibits of the works of the advisory board and those of a young artist, chosen by each board member. A
community forum will be an important featured event of the festival in order to revisit the festival's history, present, and future-as well as relevance to Miami, the experimental music community, and the world.
Here is where anyone can come to monitor the process of how the 20th anniversary
Subtropics Experimental Festival of Music and the Sound Arts will come together. Join us and help make this coming Subtropics a great success!
